Year 8 – Destroy or Save, you decide!

4 11 2008

Year 8 – you need to decide whether you are going to argue to protect or exploit the rainforest. Remember that the purpose of this exercise is to be very BIASED. You probably won’t be giving your own point of view.

Remember to extend your ideas – use lots of connectives. You will get a better level if you develop 1 or 2 points in depth then just give a list of short reasons.

Leave a comment on this post if you need any specific help!

Remember that sustainable is just a big geography work for ‘environmentally friendly’. Sustainable buildings can also be called ‘Green Buildings’.

This photo is taken at a sustainable building estate in London:

Here are some starting points for research:

The Environment Trust

Sustainable Build

Some videos about sustainable buildings

This video is aimed at adult auidiences but you should get some further ideas:

Design your own rainforest animal Year 8

21 09 2008

You can find the PowerPoint used in class here. You may need to refer to it when finishing your animal for homework. Remember that you have to convince your teacher that your animal could really survive in the rainforest!

Your animal must be able to live in one of the rainforest layers. Here’s Ray Mears climbing into the canopy: (you won;t be able to see this video at school)

21 09 2008

Year 7 you have been asked to imagine that you are a film location scout. A location scout looks for locations for tv and film. An example of what a film scout would do is this:

A film scout is one example of where geographical skills and knowledge can be used in a real job. A location scout is an example of a geography job.

The PowerPoint shown in the lesson is here. You can follow the links to some of the images – remember that youtube and flickr will not work at school!

The task sheet is here. You will find helpful links and ideas to get you started.
